Dominican amber is totally different from Baltic amber. Seen in artificial light, it is usually pale with lots of prehistoric plant debris, often giving it a marbled look. Take it out into natural sunlight, and it starts to take on a faint flourescence (a sort of green/petrol sheen). Wear it under the UV lights in your local bar or club and it produces a brilliant blue glow (we tried to capture it on film but we just couldn't do it justice).
If you are not the clubbing kind, don't worry, this is beauiful and unusual amber in any light. Rarer and more expensive than the more common (and in fact older) Baltic amber, it is rarely seen ourside of the Dominican Republic. If you are a fan of amber, this is a must to add to your collection.
We managed to get hold of a limited number of pieces and had them set for us. But when they are gone, they're gone, so get one while you can!
