We are delighted to announce the launch of this years new jewellery range from Corazon Latino.

The new range comprises 45 stunning new designs, all handmade with the usual Corazon Latino attention to detail. Building on the brands core strengths, there are gorgeous new solid silver bangles and handmade silver bracelets and necklaces. This year there are also some new ranges designed to broaden the appeal of the brand beyond just silver jewellery.

This years necklace selection includes 4 superb Keshi Pearl necklaces. Contemporary takes on the somewhat matronly pearl, these chunky, shimmering pieces are guaranteed to draw comments wherever you go.

Theo Fennell targets the high street with a new range of sterling silver jewellery

Celebrity jeweller and "king of bling" Theo Fennell is back at the helm as creative director of the company he founded 25 years ago, and is targeting the high street for the first time, with a new range of sterling silver jewellery.

Designed to compliment his existing luxury range, which starts at £1000 and move upwards rapidly from there, with commission pieces topping £1 million, the new range is priced at a more affordable £70 to £200, in line with the higher quality sterling silver jewellery already on the market. While we have yet to see the pieces themselves, there is little doubt he will have sneaked in some of that trademark bling despite the lower price tag.

There are thousands of silver earrings on the market, with prices starting as low as less than a tenner for a delicate pair of silver studs and reaching into the hundreds for some of the bigger designer pieces from the big names like Tiffany and Links of London.

While there is no doubt whatsoever about the quality of the earrings from these big names, when you start buying at the bottom end of the price range, things are not so clear. To sell jewellery as silver in the UK, you MUST get it tested and hallmarked to prove that it really is silver and does not contain any of the base metals which case cuse allergic reactions in sensitive skin (nickel & lead being the biggest offenders). BUT despite this rule, how many times have you seen racks of little earrings on their black plastic display cards marked 925 silver. The problem is, you do not legally have to test and hallmark silver if it weighs less than 7.8g, and most earrings fall under this weight. This means that there is no need to test the silver before cliaming it is silver. Unfortunately 925 is NOT sufficient t guarantee that silver is free from this allergenic metals.

At Corazon Latino we specialise in contemporary designs, handmade specially for us by artisans we know and trust using silver we buy personally and use exclusively for our jewellery. Because of that, even when we do not have to hallmark, we know that our silver earrings are free from nickel, lead or any other base metals. They are purely silver, which is in fact used in medicine for it's antibacterial properties, combined with a small quantity of copper for strength, making it sterling silver quality.

It's that time again, when 6 months hard work comes to fruition and we are able to tempt you with a fantasic new selection of contemporary silver jewellery.

This year, not only will be be bringing some fabulous new silver bracelets, bangles and necklaces handmade to Corazon's usual exacting standards, but also, for the first time, we will be adding 2 new selections to our range.

Mexico, a country of contrasts. Beautiful handmade silver jewellery and a deadly drugs war

Many of you may have seen or heard on the news about more than 50 bodies found this week dumped down an abandonned mineshaft just outside Taxco is southern Mexico. This dreadful discovery is one of the awful results of the ongoing war between the Mexican authorities and the drug cartels which has seen 23,000 people killed in the past 4 years since Mexico's President started to get tough on the cartels. This is truly awful, and my sympathies are with the families of any innocents involved in this terrible conflict, but it is also important to understand that although there are some dangerous places in Mexico, the country is not riddled with drugs and violence.

On the flip side, it is also a beautiful country, full of incrediblly friendly people, with fabulous beachs, beautiful colonial towns, and GREAT food!... Taxco is not the dumping ground of the criminal underworld, it is a beautuful hilltop town, and the centre of Latin American silver smithing.

I have been working with a talented young Mexican designers and 4 fantastic silversmiths for the past 5 years, developing the majority of the Corazon Latino silver jewellery range. Every year I am lucky enough to spend several weeks in Mexico working with the team there to devlop new designs. In all the time I have spent in Mexico; and I have travelled all across the country, including Mexico City itself (which is awsome); I have never seen a crime committed let alone a gun fired.

Of course there are dangerous places, and terrible crime, but that is the case almost anywhere. Do not judge Mexico by these sensational headlines. Give it a chance. If you do, you will discover one of the loveliest countries in the world, and fall in love with the people and places you discover. From the jungles of Oaxaca to the beautiful beaches and nature reserves of the Pacific Coast, from the deserts of the North to the lovely old colonial towns of Central Mexico, it is a country of incredible contrasts and incredible beauty.

How studying languages led to a successful silver jewellery business

People often ask me how Corazon Latino started. How did I have the courage to start my own business? Why silver jewellery? Why Corazon Latino? Why such an unusual style? The truth is it all started by accident. A lucky twist of fate, and then I decided to take that little gem of luck and turn it into something I could be proud of. If it look back to where it all began, it is clear Corazon Latino would not exist if I hadn't decided to learn Spanish.

Deciding to throw myself wholeheartedly into learning another language led me to a fabulous company Apple languages who have a superb collection of language schools all over the world. These schools offer full emersion language courses tailored to your specific requirements complete with accommodation in anything from a shared student flat to a host family to a 5* hotel, located in wonderful cities around the world. It is without question the best (and in my opinion only) way to learn a new language as an adult.

I started my Spanish experience with 4 weeks in Madrid, which were fabulous. A wonderful city, a great school and the start of several lifelong friendships. Then I got a little more adventurous and headed off to Mexico and the Universidad Internationale in Cuernavaca and that is where it all started...

5 years on, I have a hugely successful online business selling exclusive handmade silver jewellery, much of which is still made for me by the wonderful artisans of Taxco in Southern Mexico. I also speak Spanish, French and Italian having replicated the success of my Spanish schools with several weeks learning French in Provence and 3 months learning Italian from scratch in 6 schools across Italy from Venice to Sicily.

It may not be the start of a whole new business for you, but if you want to experience a different way of life, meet fascinating people and challenge yourself with a new language, then these fantastic full immersion language courses and the way to go.

Over the years I have picked up details of some great schools around the world, here are a selection you might like to look into.

One of my all time favourites is the Spanish Experience Center in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Run by a young American woman who is as passionate about her school and the local community as she is about her collection of rescue dogs, it is by far the best language school in Puerto Vallarta. The teachers are exceptional, the atmosphere warm and welcoming and the results spectacular. Now at the end of the day you only get out what you are willing to put in, but if you are serious about improving (or learning from scratch) your Spanish, and having a good time in one of the loveliest beach resorts in Central America, then these guys will deliver for you.

If English is not your mother tongue there are plenty of options out there for you to learn it, or to add another European language to your arsenal. 2 great sites for German speakers are Italienisch lernen im ausland, where you can choose from the wonderful cities of Florence, Rome or Milan as well as the smaller towns of San Remo, Tropea (one of my personal favourites) and the lovely island of Sicily.

Their sister site Englisch lernen im ausland, offers a superb selection of choices for learning English, with schools not only in the UK but also as far flung as the US, South Africa and New Zealand.

So why not change your life forever, by taking the plunge and spending a few weeks of your life in one of these amazing schools. You may not end up with your own business at the end of it all but you will definitely be the richer for it.

Famous Italian jeweller Buccellati launches silver jewellery for the first time

Established in the mid-eighteenth century in Milan, and still family run today, Buccellati have been a major player in the jewellery world for over 250 years. We are currently in the process of finalising our latest range of silver jewellery. One of the new chains we have come up with has an interesting knotted link which reminds me a little of a horses bit. Having shown it to some of my horse loving friends, I discovered that there is a big interest in horse related jewellery.

Corazon Latino set to add exclusive designs from the Karen Hilltribe this Summer

ot only are we constantly trying to come up with new designs for our silver jewellery, we are also always on the look out for top notch craftsmen and designers to work with.

This year, while working on a new project to bring you sparkling handmade silk handbags and shoes (more of those later), I found myself in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand, and had a chance to meet the artisans behind the increasingly popular hilltribe silver.

An ancient people, originally from the mountains of Tibet, the Karen Hilltribe are the largest of the remaining hilltribes in Northern Thaialnd and Myanmar. They live in remote villages in the mountains west of Chiangmai. Still living in the traditional way in Teak or Bamboo houses, cooking on open fires and living in tune with the forest around them. For centuries, these people have been making beautiful hand woven fabrics (we will be bringing you some fabulous hilltribe bags this summer), wood carvings and intricate handmade silver beads.

Not only is Karen silver completely handmade, it is also purer than standard sterling silver. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver & 7.5% copper (Usually. Some people do use other metals for the 7.5% alloy). Karen silver is between 99.5 & 99.9% pure silver. The upside of this is that it is even more valuable, it has it's own unique colour and satin texture (it is less mirror shiny and has a deeper lustre), it is also softer, which allows the hilltribe artisans to create these amazingly detailed flowers. The downside is that being softer, and for larger pieces, more silver is needed to give is the resiliance it needs for everyday jewellery. BUT treat it with the love and respect it deserves and you will find you have a stunning piece of jewellery that will last a lifetime.

Inspired by nature, with each family creating their own unique beads based on the forest around them, there are literally thousands of different beads to choose from, from dainty silver leaves, to intricate flowers, dragonflies, butterflies... you name it, they have created it. These feature beads can then be combined with simpler handmade beads to create stunning botanical pieces that are unique to the hilltribe people.

Working with the artisans, we have created a small range of designs which are exclusive to us, and which we hope captures the spirit of the Karen hilltribe silver. From the delicate flowers to the hammered silver clasps; which are beautiful in their own right, every one of these pieces carries the imprint of the craftsman who made it. The latest line in celebrity jewellery from the Kardashian sisters

If you like your celebrity jewellery, then the latest range from the Kardashian sisters might just be for you.

The range, designed for LA based jewellery brand Virgins, Saints and Angels, has just under 100 pieces crafted in sterling silver and bronze, set with precious and semi precious stones. Loosly inspired by the sister's Armenian heritage, the pieces have an edgy gothic feel, with a romantic twist. Hearts, crosses and crowns predominate, with some interesting filagree work.

There are some pretty pieces, but with prices ranging from $185 for a pair of earrings, spike necklace or ring right up to $1025 for a sterling silver bangle, they don't come cheap. Personally I don't see how you can justify that sort of price for silver unless it weighs so much you can't lift your arm, but then the girls do have very expensive taste.

If you don't flinch at the prices and fancy a bit of Celebrity bling, then you can find the entire range online at Ylang23.

Despite being US based, they do ship Internationally, but bear in mind you'll be paying shipping on top of these prices plus another 17.5% Uk VAT and customs duties and fees when they reach the UK. Worth it? I'll let you make up your own minds.

We're working on our new jewellery range for Summer 2010

It's that time of year again, when we start finalising our new silver jewellery range.

It's a long, slow process, which starts in December with a visit to our artisans in Mexico and Thailand to discuss new ideas, designs, and improvements to the current range. Over the next 3 months, the favourite designs are turned into prototypes and sent to us for approval. Then in April we finalise the range, and while the guys are making our jewellery we plan our photoshoot so you have great quality photos to help you find that perfect piece.

June is a crazy month of incoming stock, hallmarking at the Assay office (to be sure every one of our pieces are pure sterling silver) and finalising all the details for the new range to go live.

This year, if things go according to plan, you should see the new range live on our site by the middle of July.

This year is particularly exciting. Not only do we have 25 fabulous new bracelets, bangles and necklaces, but for the first time we will be launching a range of silver rings including minature versions of some of our most popular silver bangles and necklaces. We will also be adding some colour to the range with 2 breathtaking jewelled rings, made for us in the gem capital of the world; Jaipur.

Well, one of my favourite websites is Hersey Silversmiths.

An old fashioned silversmiths (in the positive sense of the word). Established in London in 1955 and still going strong today, they now offer, not only traditional silverware, but also fabulous contemporary silver work for all sorts of occasions from wedding anniversaries to Christenings.

Tiffany launch 3 new ranges to celebrate 30 years of Paloma Picasso design

Paloma Picasso's signature X's and Grafitti designs have become almost as familiar as Tiffany's classic silver jewellery and engraved catches.

To celebrate 30 years working with Tiffany, she has come up with 3 lovely new ranges.

The "Dove" collection (Paloma means Dove in Spanish), a range a fluid stylised bird pendants inspired by her fathers famous drawing. Availabe in sterling silver, 10-karat gold and diamonds.

For those who prefer gold, "Marrakesh" is a range of ornate gold cutwork pieces set with precious and semi precious stones inspired by the Moorish architecture of Marrakesh where Picasso owns a home.

The "Hammered Circles" range is the most simple A wearable, everyday range, cleverly combining hammered metal circles to form links in necklace sand loops in earrings. Available in sterling silver, yellow and rose gold.
