To get you thinking, here are our recommended 10 top pieces for Valentine’s Day:

First and foremost we have the lovely Venus pendant (£55) a pretty, delicate, twisted silver heart on your choice of silver chain, suede, leather or rubber lace.

Another gorgeous silver pendant is the Cordelia (£70) a beautiful silver rose cast in sterling silver. Perfect on one of our silver chokers, or strung on a red velvet ribbon for a really romantic touch.

If she likes Amber, why not go for one of our unique amber pendants (all £95). Natural Baltic amber in 3 lovely colour ranges (honey, milky and forest) hand wrapped in a sterling silver cage. Because each piece of amber is unique, every pendant is a one of a kind. We have 2 pendants designed around a stylised heart.

We have the simple Dorado or the more ornate Cybele. Both are lovely on a simple silver chain, or a fine silver choker.

If you don’t fancy a pendant, then why not take a look at one of our gorgeous silver bangles. We have a great selection in a variety of sizes and designs, but for Valentines, my favourites are the stunning Pandora a thick, twist of solid silver that wraps around the wrist in a stunning cuff, the simple Tuscana (£70) and the truly romantic aphrodite (£200).

Named for the goddess of love, the Aphrodite is what we call a soul mate bangle. 2 different bangles, locked together, supporting each other but remaining as individuals. The twisted bangle is completely free of the smooth one and twists around it. The more you play with it the smoother it spins.

Both of these fabulous bangles have smooth undersides, making them ideal for engraving, so why not add your own personal message and give her a Valentine’s gift she will never forget?

If you don’t want to go down the classic Heart route, then why not a solid silver flower? Our Bianca silver flower necklace (£110) is a thick solid silver flower hung on fine black cords. This lovely pendant can be taken off the necklace and worn in 2 different ways (there are 2 loops on the back allowing you to twist it and hang it from either 1 or 2 of them) or you can ring the changes and wear it on a choker or chain for a totally different look.  A versatile piece, designed to give you 3 looks for the price of 1.

Finally, for the truly extravagant, why not go for the Galatea set (£337.50). This contemporary design was inspired by the traditional hugs and kisses at the end of letter. Little X’s and O’s, cast, linked and hand polished to create a lovely silver collar with matching bracelet and earrings. So if you’re feeling generous, why not cover the lady in your live with silver hugs and kisses this Valentine’s Day?

Costume jewellery is a great way to ring the changes and coordinate your jewellery with your outfits and there are some fabulous ranges of costume jewellery out there with almost disposable prices. BUT beware not all cheap jewellery is good quality.

This week, Health Canada; the Canadian government body responsible for health; sent out a public warning about several items of jewellery found to contain "excessive levels of lead". I was amazed. Lead? In what world is it a good thing to use lead in jewellery manufacture? They also told parents to "take these items away from children immediately".. again, who gives metal jewellery to children, let alone jewellery that contains metals you don't know are pure?

Our advice at Corazon Latino is to only give jewellery to children over the age of 12 who will not be at risk of choking or strangling. Our suggestions for starter jewellery are either elasticated silver bracelets like our dainty little Alexandrra or indestructable solid silver bangles like our Cressida.

As for buying metal jewellery in general, we would strongly recommend you stick to the pure, precious metals like Gold, Silver, Platinum and Titanium. At the lower cost end, the best option is silver jewellery which is a fraction of the cost of gold or platinum.

IF you are going down the route of silver jewellery, be sure to buy jewellery that is sterling quality silver and hallmarked to give you the guarantee that it is free from lower grade or dangerous metals. Sterling silver jewellery is tested to ensure it only contains silver (92.5%) and copper (7.5%). It can not contain lead (heaven forbid) or Nickel, which is commonly used in cheaper jewellery to give a silver colour BUT it commonly causes rashes.

If you want to go for cheaper costume jewellery, our advice is to avoid metal jewellery and go for some of the fabulous crystal, bead or seed jewellery thats out there.

Heads up Gentlemen!  It is now just 5 weeks to Valentine’s Day, and it really pays to be prepared.

Now the trick to a successful Valentine’s Day is planning and preparation. Do NOT run around like a headless chicken on Feb 14th trying to find a petrol station still selling flowers. She WILL know! Think about it now, do a bit of research and believe me, a gift that shows you cared enough to do some research, no matter what the cost, will be better received than a ridiculously expensive last minute panic buy.

Women do tend to read more into gifts than you ever intended, so make sure you get the right present for the right stage of your relationship.

If it’s really early on, I would suggest flowers. We love flowers and after such awful weather, a beautiful bunch of flowers will brighten any day. Now a word of advice, any old bunch of flowers will NOT do. It does not have to be huge or extravagant or dozens of red roses, but it does have to be thoughtful. Think about where she will put it (her living room, her bedroom). Check the colour scheme in that room and get a bunch of flowers made up especially by the florist in the same colour. This way it will look fabulous in her house AND you will get extra brownie points for care and observation.

If I were you, I would avoid cosmetics, perfume or lingerie as these are REALLY personal, and unless you know her really well, you are likely to get these wrong. If you feel you MUST go for one of these, then again research is critical. Check what she has, check what she’s running low on (but be careful about the inference of buying her top ups for her anti-wrinkle cream :-)). Check sizes and style if you are going the lingerie route (but do try not to get caught going through her drawers!) Remember you are buying it for her NOT you! I wish you good luck.

Silver jewellery is another fabulous option, and with such a high variety of shapes, styles and prices, there is certainly plenty of scope for any relationship from months to decades...

Here are some suggestions from our latest range that might work for you.

In the early days of a relationship, if you don’t want to be too extravagant, but you still want to make a statement, then why not go for our gorgeous Venus necklace. An unusual twisted silver heart hung on your choice of a silver chain, suede or rubber lace. No matter what her age or style, you’ll be able to find one version that will work.

If you want to “up the ante” a little, you could add our Orbit solid silver choker for a more sophisticated look. This choker also looks fabulous on any of chunky silver pendants. Particular favourites for Valentine’s Day are our chunky charms and the beautiful Cordelia silver rose. These silver pendants can be bought alone and strung on a velvet ribbon, or bought with one of our laces, silver chokers.

If you want something really personal, why not go for one of our solid silver bangles. From dainty to chunky, our gorgeous sterling silver bangles are perfect for engraving. Order early and get your local jeweller to add your own special message for a Valentines gift that will be treasured forever.

If you have found your Soul mate, then why not go for the extravagantly romantic Aphrodite soulmate bangle. This incredible bangle is an absolute feat of silver-smithing. Two individual solid silver bangles, locked together, with the outer bangle protecting and orbiting round the inner one creating one perfect whole.

If you don’t want anything overtly romantic, but still want to give a gift that will last beyond a box of chocolates or a bunch of roses, then take a look at our silver necklaces. They are all handmade, and with prices starting at just £36 for some of our crystal necklaces & £45 for silver, there is sure to be something that would suit.

If you would like us to gift wrap your present, just add this to your order and feel free to add a personal message in the comments box at check out and we will add a gift card with your message on it. (And don’t worry, we have seen some fabulous messages in our time, nothing will surprise us :-)!)

If you’re in the UK and the weather keeps it up, please make sure you order by Feb 6th to be sure your jewellery arrives in time. If the weather is good and the post back to normal, then you should be OK right up to mid-day on Thursday the 11th.

For overseas orders we would recommend ordering by the end of January to be on the safe side.

With snow knee deep and temperatures well below freezing, it is lunacy to go out if you don't need to. BUT life does have to go on. Birthday's are looming and presents need to be bought, but do you realy want to risk your safety or even just spend a miserable afternoon shopping?

IF your postman is getting through, then you can still shop online at Corazon Latino. We have plenty of stock and, thanks to big wellies and serious dedication :-), we are still getting to the post office to send out your parcels using Royal mail special delivery. We may not be able to get your silver jewellery to you within our usual incredible 2 working days (because the final leg depends on your postman), but we will get it to you!

So, stay indoors, keep warm and shop with us. We will get your jewellery to you in less than a week (weather permitting) and you can concentrate on more important things; like building snowmen :-)
1) Good amber is completely natural. It is nothing but the fossilized resin from prehistoric trees.

2) Each piece of amber is unique in colour with it's own individual inclusions (plant material, sun spangles and occasionally insects trapped in the resin).

3) Amber jewellery is the ultimate in recycled jewellery, taking ancient botanical material and turning it into beautiful, timeless jewellery.

4) By setting it in a handmade silver setting, you create a one off piece of silver jewellery that is totally unique to you.

5) The subtle, warm colours of Baltic amber compliment all skin tones and ages making it the most versatile of jewellery.

6) Amber pendants look great on a huge range of outfits. Wear your amber pendant on a solid silver choker for a formal look, or string it on a velvet ribbon for a funky Bohemian look.

If you are one of those women with a closet FULL of jewellery, and more necklaces than days in the year, then read no further. If on the other hand you are looking for that one perfect piece of jewellery (whether for yoursef or for the lady in your life), then this is definitely the post for you!

With so much silver jewellery out there, the options really are endless. Prices range from a few pounds for a tiny chain or charm to thousands for a big name designer piece. We are all spoilt for choice. Where do we start?

Well, if you are looking for a piece that you can wear all the time, that looks good with both casual and formal wear, jeans and a business suit, then I would recommend a silver bangle or bracelet. Jewellery that you can wear on your arm is the most versatile, most useful and most practical option out there, and if you go for silver jewellery, it should look good and last you for years.

So the question is "Do I go for a silver bracelet or a silver bangle?"

For those not familiar with the terminology, a bracelet is a flexible chain or band, while a bangle is solid, ranging from a dainty, slim band to a thick, wide cuff. Bangles can be a solid circle, hinged or open depending on the design.

Personally I love big, chunky, silver bangles, but there are advantages to both.

Here are my top 5 reasons to buy a silver bracelet:

1) Value for money - Silver bracelets are half the size, so half the price of a necklace.
2) Versatility - Silver bracelets can be worn with any sleeve length.
3) Individuality - You can personalise your silver bracelet with fabulous charms.
4) Variety - The choice of silver bracelets out there is immense, more than any other item of silver jewellery.
5) Coordination - Most silver bracelets can also be made into necklace lengths allowing you to build your jewellery collection and create matching sets

And here are the top 5 reasons to opt for a silver bangle:

1) Impact - A big, chunky, solid silver cuff makes a statement.
2) Comfort - A bangle doesn't jangle (when you type, write etc)
3) Safety - Silver bangles don't get easily caught on things ( a big deal if you have small children)
4) Fit - A silver bangle can be squeezed and adjusted for the perfect fit (although don't open and close a bangle more than once or you will damage the silver!)
5) Personalisation - Most silver bangles have a flat inner surface which makes them the perfect medium for engraving. Add your own personal message and make your silver bangle unique.

With so many great designs out there, why not start your 2010 silver jewellery collection with a silver bangle or bracelet?
