Our most versatile piece of jewellery, you can wear them on a silver chain, a choker, or a pretty ribbon. Buy a selection of ribbons for a few quid and use them to coordinate your pendant with your outfit. You can even get a local jeweller to add an extra ring and use them as a bracelet charm.

Next would be the Borealis bangles and rings. A spectacular jewel encrusted bangle with a lovely chunky matching ring. They come in Fire (Amethyst, citrine, garnet and smoky quartz) and Ice (Amethyst, blue topaz, peridot and zircon) colour combinations which look fabulous together so if you don’t want to match too much why not go for one in each colour-way?

This incredible technique has been perfected by artisans in Northern Thailand, who create each tiny link by hand and then build it up by attaching each link to 3 surrounding links allowing them to knit a length of pure silver chain mail to any dimensions they require. It may look delicate but it's heavyweight, surprisingly strong and feel incredibly sexy against bare skin.

Having started my own jewellery business thanks to a happy accident, I am always on the lookout for other accidental jewellers. This quest led me to New York based team Aurelia Cotton and Patrick Culpepper of Peppercotton who stumbled across their clever crystal mesh concept while working together on a completely different concept.

Their crystal mesh design is completely innovative, Each necklace is handmade in their Brooklyn studio using lightweight, transparent mesh tubing filled with loose Swarovski and vintage Czech crystals. They combine complimentary colours and tones in a variety of sizes to create a blended, sparkling crystal rope. Because each one is handmade and the combination of crystals vary, every necklace is unique.

Starting at $550, there's the lovely light and dark Amethyst cuff. 13 amethysts set in a 2cm wide, 24k gold plated cuff. It's actually available in 6 different combinations but my two favourites are the amethyst and the turquoise and blue topaz.

If you like warmer colours, then how about this lovely faceted carnelian and white agate bracelet. Again, set in 24k plated gold, it costs $650.
