Top tips for buying liquid silver jewellery.

Liquid silver is the name for a style of multistrand jewellery made using tubular silver beads on silk threads. It is both beautiful and versatile. Here are our top tips for finding the right piece for you:
  1. Style – Liquid silver necklaces come in two main designs. Multistrand or waterfall. A waterfall necklace has strands of different lengths so that each one hangs separately creating a waterfall effect. An example of this is our Sylviana necklace. A simple multistrand has all the strands the same length so that they hang together to create one thick flow of silver. An example of this is our Sylvia necklace.


  2. How many strands – Whether it's a necklace or a bracelet, the next thing to decide is how many strands you want. As a basic rule of thumb, the more strands, there heavier the piece will be. 10 strands is quite a delicate piece, and is ideal for a waterfall necklace (where more strands would look busy), but which we believe is a little too delicate for a bracelet. 20 strands is ideal for a bracelet, but if you prefer something more substantial, you can go up from this to 30 or even 50 depending on how much you want to pay. For the single length multistrand necklaces we recommend 20+ strands for maximum impact. We offer 20 strands in our unusual Diana necklace which also includes tiny round silver beads making it look like dewdrops on cobwebs and our long, knottable Sylvia necklace. Our short Sylvia necklace is 25 strands, and for something really spectacular we offer the fabulous 50 strand Sylvia.


  3. Weight/Quality – Don’t assume that all liquid silver is the same. There are 2 weights of beads, one half the thickness of the other. These means that two 10 strand necklace can weigh completely different amounts. Now there is nothing wrong with either type, you just have to be absolutely clear what you are buying. When you are comparing pieces of liquid silver jewellery, alwasy check the total weight of the piece as well as the number of strands to be sure you are comparing like with like.
